Dr. Rich is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and is listed with the Canadian Register of Health Services Providers in Psychology (CRHSPP). She is also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association, the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse, the Ottawa Academy of Psychology, and a Clinical Member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.

Previous Experience
Dr. Susan Rich has been in private practice in Ottawa since 1997. She specializes in providing assessment, treatment and consultation services for infants, children, adolescents and their families. From 1990 to 1997, Dr. Rich was Clinical Coordinator, Residential Services, and then Coordinator of Psychological Services at the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa. Before that, from 1983 to 1989, she was Director of Psychological Services at a children’s mental health centre in Toronto. Dr. Rich has practiced psychology since obtaining her Ph.D. in 1982 from Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

General Clinical Services
Dr. Rich provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment and consultation for infants, children, adolescents and families in these areas:

  • infant and preschool development
  • developmental, learning and intellectual difficulties
  • autism and pervasive developmental disorders
  • behavioural, emotional, and social problems
  • attachment disorders
  • coping with illness
  • adoption
  • parenting and family conflicts
  • coping with separation and divorce
  • child abuse

Specialized Clinical Services

Children In-Care. Dr. Rich offers assessment and therapy for children who live in-care, and consultation regarding these children’s special needs to foster homes, group homes and their supporting agencies

Sexually Troubled Children. Dr. Rich provides assessment and treatment for sexually troubled children and youth, and adolescent sexual offenders. Family education and support is also offered. Treatment protocols and evaluation tools developed by Dr. Rich are used in adolescent sexual offender treatment programs in Canada and the U.S.

Consultation and Training. Directed at professionals, governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations, services include: clinical consultation; program implementation and review; training and supervision; consultation regarding residential treatment and foster care.

Adoptive Families. Working with adoptive families, Dr. Rich provides support in the pre-adoption and post-adoption phases, with special sensitivity to attachment difficulties and the impact of early trauma.

Clinical services begin with an initial consultation. An assessment or treatment plan is then developed collaboratively with the family. Children and parents may be seen alone or together as a family.

Fees are discussed during the first telephone contact. A portion of the fees are usually covered by most third party health insurance plans.

Directed at professionals, governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations, Dr. Rich is available to provide clinical consultation; program implementation and review; training and supervision; as well as one- to three-day workshops on selected clinical topics.
